Energy Management vs. Time Management

Energy Management vs. Time Management

Do you hate it as much as I do when people say “We all have the same number of hours in the day as Beyonce”?

Yes, Beyonce has done very well with the number of hours in her days, but I’m a little more concerned with my own life, thank you very much.

As a side-hustler, building my business in the little free time I have outside my demanding day job, I’ve struggled with time management for a long time.

I’ve come to the realization that the mindset of “How can I cram more work into a 24 hour day?” isn’t helpful.

That mindset has just led me to stress and burnout.

I have no problem with hard work - it’s built into my DNA. But I no longer want to live my life being stressed, miserable, and burned out.

If you’re still currently in that burnout stage, I know it sounds like the impossible dream, but we can achieve our goals and not be constantly overworked and stressed out.

I’ve experienced times when I’m working hard, but I’m enjoying it, so I know it’s possible to work hard and also be happy.

The key is to manage your energy, not just your time.

By managing your energy, you can make sure you’ll actually have the energy to do all the things you want to do.

Have you ever planned out your week and put all your tasks on the calendar, feeling proud of yourself for how organized and productive you are, and then by the end of the week you barely got any of those tasks done because you didn’t have enough time or energy to do it all?

You can’t see it, but I’m raising my hand over here.

This is what happened to me most weeks over the last few years. So now my focus is on managing my energy, rather than time.

We still live within the bounds of time though, so there still needs to be a little time management, but I’m focusing first on my energy.

I haven’t been doing this long, but so far I’m getting more done than I used to but without the stress and burnout. And I’m enjoying the work more because it’s not burning me out.

If this sounds appealing to you, stick around because I’m going to be talking more about this over the next few weeks. Enter your name and email below to sign up for my email list to make sure you get my posts sent right to your inbox.
